Windows Vista SP1 Release Candidate Goes Out to Testers

Microsoft probably can’t wait to get Windows Vista Service Pack 1 out the door, as many corporations will not adope the new OS until SP1 is released. To that end, Microsoft has delivered a release candidate of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 to some 15,000 invitation-only testers, while at the same time saying it was still on track to deliver SP1 early next year.

Microsoft bottom line unaffected by Vista

For most companies, launching a significant new product to a widespread lack of interest - and, in some cases, hostility - would count as a business disaster of considerable magnitude.
But most companies are not Microsoft and most products are not Windows Vista.
Some of the customer reactions to the sixth version of the Windows desktop operating system, which was first released to business customers a year ago next week, have been enough to make a product manager blush.

Leopard Outsells Windows in Japan

A new report shows that Apple’s new Mac OS X version, Leopard, has outsold Windows during October.  Between September and October, sales of OS X jumped from under 16% to just over 60%.  Windows sales dropped from 75% to less than 30%. 
It is expected that the sales of OS X will drop back to normal levels.  But, one reason that OS X Leopard may be enjoying such success over Vista is that Vista sells for a whopping $276 in Japan, while OS X goes for $134.
