Vista vanquished by XP in performance tests

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Almost no one has anything good to say about Vista and the beaten and battered operating system is being trounced by its six years older brother, XP.  In a new battery of tests, once and for all, XP is shown to be the performance champion leaving Vista in the dust.
Information Week
reports that Devil Mountain Software posted new results that pitted Windows XP, Vista and Vista SP1 Beta against each other.  Even with the SP1 beta upgrade Vista was still a slow poke.

Monday, November 26th, 2007

There have been rumours abound for the past week about the possibility of a new service pack coming for Windows XP, and now Microsoft has confirmed that beta testing is underway for a release early next year. There are also claims already emerging of the possible speed and performance boost that SP3 will provide for those of us sticking with XP.
Having completed the first RC (release candidate) for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), Microsoft set about starting trials of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). The preview version, basically a fully featured trial version being beta tested for flaws, has now been released to 15,000 users who will continually give feedback, and report any errors in the upgrade.

Microsoft wants you to buy Vista, now

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

Rather than have 90% of businesses and IT folk wait to deploy Vista, Microsoft would rather have all of them do so now or sooner than later.  That’s not going to happen, besides the cost to upgrade existing hardware, there are migration issues, hardware and software compatibility and the usual ills that come with a Microsoft operating system.
However, Vista is quite ready for home users and shouldn’t present too much of a problem on that front.  Businesses, on the other hand have quite a few things to consider before rolling out a new operating system.
